General Chemistry
The Fine Print
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
-
Demonstrate an understanding of the International System of Units (SI), and using dimensional analysis, demonstrate how to convert different units used in chemistry.
-
Demonstrate the use of the periodic table in understanding the relative properties of atoms and the trends and pattern that occur as a result of the outermost energy level of atoms.
-
Explain molecular structure, bond energy, and how changes in variables can change the rate of reaction at equilibrium in chemical reactions.
-
Demonstrate how proportions can be calculated through the use of stoichiometry.
-
Demonstrate familiarity through calculations of the different laws used in chemistry including Lavoisier's Law of Mass Conservation, Law of Definite Proportions, Law of Multiple Proportions, Gay-Lussac's Law of Combining Volumes, Avogadro's Law, Boyle's Law, Charles' Law, Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures, and Le Chatelier's Principle.
-
Perform hands-on and virtual experiments and accurately record and analyze the results.
-
Master problem-solving techniques and apply them to real-world situations.
