This class is a hard class and will teach you a lot about calculus. You have to put in the work (I put in roughly 10 hours a week, often more),and it will be challenging if you have not studied calculus before. But this class is worth the work because it will give you a solid foundation for higher-level math classes and will teach you a lot about hard work! Dr.Yen is always open for questions, and I encourage you to take advantage of this. If you don't understand something, you can't wait until the day before the test—you need to understand it and apply it as soon as possible, so reach out to Dr. Yen, or use the resources she provides. Allin all, this is a challenging and great class, and I enjoyed taking it!

Great class make sure to take advantage of the weekly class time, additional resources and homework and you are on the way to get a 5 and a solid foundation in advanced math. Great class. The class teacher,Dr. Yen, is frequently available to answer questions in either office hours and class time. Lots of materials to accommodate students from the disinterested to the enthusiastic. However while Dr. Yen offers time to walk through questions in office hours and weekly class, as a student you must put a good effort into actively learning, which means active participation in class putting in the hours to complete practice problem and utilizing resources at least a few hours a day. Additionally, while Dr.Yen does take some time to explain the ideas intuitively either in class or prerecorded review of topics, the class is largely geared towards solving problems, so if you need to work through the ideas to make sure you understand them. Also make sure to actively attend the weekly Friday class. Friday class is more than just a lecture it is an opportunity to practice problem that are frequently wrong and get live and in depth feedback. If you have the discipline to do the above definitely take this class, you are on the way to a confident 5 and a solid foundation for future math.

I loved the BTO AP Calculus BC class! Dr. Yen was an engaging and helpful teacher through both the recorded lessons and the weekly problem sessions. Every week at the problem session, she went through every student's question and provided helpful AP exam tips and strategies, as well as problems from the AP exam. When I attended office hours, she went through each of my questions in great detail and precision. This is a great class for preparing for the AP exam!

This class is challenging with a heavy workload, and it is difficult to succeed without putting in the maximum time and effort. However, Dr.Yen is a strict and helpful instructor, who made me feel prepared for theAP exam. I'd recommend this class to anyone willing to give up time to work.

This class was extremely helpful for me, with everything I expected and more in terms of material, practice problems, and assignments. I feel likeI have a very good understanding of all the topics I'll need for the AP exam and for further on in life. To future students - I would suggest keeping up with the workload as well as you can, as falling behind doesn't allow you to experience the course in the best manner. All in all, this is one of the best courses I've ever taken and I've enjoyed it immensely.

Thank you so much for teaching me calculus this year, Dr. Yen! This APCalculus BC class has definitely prepared me for future calculus courses, but because it sometimes went beyond the scope of the actualAP exam content, I occasionally found it difficult to keep up with the extra materials and assignments due to my overall course load this year.However, Dr. Yen is really an amazing teacher, and she provides all the resources to get help through problem sessions either once or twice a week. To succeed in this class, you definitely need to put in the workand lots of time, but you will be set up for success in future math courses if you do!

Math can be a daunting subject, especially in an AP class, with the looming dread of a huge test above you, but this class helps greatly! The course work is thorough and detailed, so you never have to worry about missing a concept or formula. One thing I would suggest is to ALWAYS stay on top of extra credit work and practice problems, as these will boost your grades tremendously and keep you on top performance.

This is my second class with Dr. Yen, and I highly recommend her classes. They are not only well thought out, but she is very approachable. Dr. Yen holds her students to a high standard but also is exceptionally fair and understanding.

I was pretty apprehensive about this class at the beginning of the year,not only since I skipped directly from Precalculus but also because I had never taken a Blue Tent course before, but looking back I can now honestly say that I really enjoyed Dr. Yen's class! It was definitely challenging, and let's just say the workload is not light by any means, but I would totally recommend this course to any student who is willing to work hard and put in a lot of time and effort to learn. I think what I appreciated most about this class was how easy it was to ask questions- Dr. Yen holds a problem session every week in which she meticulously covers every question raised on our discussion forum, and that was always super helpful for me. And even if that weren't enough, Dr. Yen also held optional office hours on Wednesday, which were a great back-up for units that I found more challenging. Overall, this class really taught me a lot and helped me feel super prepared for the AP exam!Would highly recommend it!

Calculus BC is definitely not an easy class to take, and Dr. Yen pushes you so that we don't slack off but do well. I would say that the live meetings, especially the office hours, were a lot more helpful than I initially expected. I wish I had gone to more throughout the year, so my advice to any potential students is to utilize the office hours!!

I took Dr. Yen's AP Calculus AB class. I think the class was run extremely well. I learned lots and ran into very few problems on the exam. I really appreciated the fact that Dr. Yen took time to make sure all the students understood everything even if it took a while. She was very patient with us students. I was very prepared for the exam. It would probably be a good idea for future students to take some of the Dr. Chung practice exams (however frustrating they maybe) because it will make the real exam feel much easier.

Dr. Yen is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She teaches concepts very clearly and is always there to provide you with detailed explanations for anything you're having trouble understanding. There's also a discussion forum that students can post questions to, and Dr. Yen will answer your questions during office hours. If you're a student in this class you should definitely try to attend as many office hours as you can because they help a lot with homework!

This class is awesome! Although it's pretty challenging, Dr. Yen's teaching makes it so much better. There were so many times when I thought I would never grasp the concepts but came away from a teaching session feeling much more confident about my understanding. In a lot of online classes, the teachers simply talk at you, but Dr. Yen really knows how to engage everyone effectively. I've talked to a lot of other people who have taken Calculus, and from my estimation, this course covers 30-40% more content than a non-AP calculus class. It is also much more effective than a regular AP calculus class - almost 70%of students who take it receive a 5 on the exam. Although it's difficult, this is a pretty flexible course and extensions are usually available if you need them. However, the best way to succeed in this course is to stay on top of things, read about the concepts ahead of time, and review past concepts diligently.

I greatly enjoy Dr. Yen's AP Calc AB class this year. Although challenging at times I, Dr. Yen was an excellent guide throughout the year. The course was interesting and engaging. I particularly enjoyed the Friday problem sessions in which we worked on many complex problems and went over places we where having any trouble.

I really enjoyed Dr. Yen's class! She is kind and encouraging, and truly cares about her students learning the material. She makes complex concepts understandable and even gives extra tips and advice. The problem sessions are extremely valuable. I appreciated that Dr. Yen always encouraged us to ask questions and then led the class discussions in ways that provided deeper insights about the topics. I also liked the overall structure of the class. Dr. Yen's lesson videos are easy to follow and provide lots of examples. The homework is manageable and covers interesting problems and applications of what you are learning. She is very accessible to her students, quickly responds to any questions submitted through WebAssign, and is always willing to work with you during office hours if you need extra help understanding the material. Additionally, Dr. Yen provided a structured AP exam review and specific guidance that prepared me well for the exam. I took Calculus AB and BC with Dr. Yen and earned 5s on both exams. These classes gave me a strong foundation for the study of more advanced math, and although I’m eager to pursue those topics, I will definitely miss being in Dr. Yen’s class!

Professor Yen's AP Calculus AB class was absolutely phenomenal. Not only is she a clear master of the subject, but she is one of the most deeply invested teachers I have ever had. She clearly cares that her students grasp and get excited about the material, rather than just going through the motions of class busywork, and she is always quick to respond emails and grade work with helpful feedback. Her lectures are clear and easy to follow and her Friday problem sessions were super engaging and helped work out any kinks in my understanding and truly cement ideas. This class does require a significant amount of dedication--1 generally spent between 1.5-3.5 hours a day, even up to around 4 or 5 on a very few occasions, but it was worth it (this is a class I wouldn't advise taking in tandem with more than one or two other very challenging/AP classes, though, just due to the level of commitment). I feel incredibly prepared for the AP exam, but more importantly, as someone planning to enter into the study of engineering next fall, I feel excited about and confident in my use of the material and knowledge of how to use it in real-world scenarios. I would absolutely recommend Professor Yen's class!

I had a lot of fun in this class and learned a lot! The class prepared me well for the AP Exam as well as making sure I had a good foundation in calculus principles. The pace of the class was just right. As long as I was able to complete all homework assignments, quizzes and tests, and not just go through the motions of doing assignments and actually understand the material, this class will prepare you well for the AP Exam and give you a good understanding in Calculus! 

This class teaches calculus in an extremely insightful way. Calculus is the math that glues all of the other math topics together, and Dr. Yen teaches it very well. In this course, we looked at real world examples which helped me understand Calculus topics much better. This class, although difficult, is extremely fun.

I have enjoyed my time with this class very much. It was very difficult in the beginning, but all it takes is some hard work and diligence to get through it. For any new students, I would VERY much advise you to really take the time and work on the practice problems that are assigned on the website as well as in the textbook. Studying with the practice problems makes a big difference. 

I really enjoyed taking this class! The weekly videos coupled with the problem sessions helped me with any concepts I was having trouble with. By the time the AP exam came around, I felt extremely prepared for it. I highly recommend taking this class! Ms. Yen really wants her students to succeed and always helped me with any concepts I struggled with.

Dr. Yen doesn't teach to simply teach. Yes, from day 1, you will immediately understand that Dr. Yen has an excellent understanding of calculus. Yes, from day 1, you will see how thorough she is in presenting the material in a way that is easy to understand and apply. Yes, from day 1, you will know that Dr. Yen is perhaps one of the best teachers you will have because from day 1, you will experience the way she goes beyond simply teaching. And you know that Dr. Yen is a good teacher when 87% of her class scores an equivalent of a 5 on the final exam (which was a past ap exam), and 91% scored a 4 or above.

There are many good teachers--there are few teachers who invest in their students at a level like Dr. Yen. She is always open to questions, always willing to explain, and never 'too busy' to help out a student. She doesn't care about your grade, per se, as much as she emphasizes understanding the fundamentals of the topic at hand. Yes, from day 1, you will understand that Dr. Yen isn't here to give you a percentage--she's here to help you grow.

Of course, that isn't to say her class is a walk in the park - what you get out of Calculus AB is determined entirely by what you put in. Go to office hours. Go to problem sessions. Make sure you're asking questions because Dr. Yen will always answer them. Admittedly, an asynchronous class might dissuade some, but the level of involvement she has with her students easily matches that of a synchronous class. The way Dr. Yen has designed her course is modeled in a way so that if you take this class seriously and diligently, you will undoubtably do well. It is a challenging class, but that is what makes it so rewarding. 

Ms. Yen is the best math teacher I've had! She is dedicated to helping her students love and understand the math, and her ability to explain calculus in simple terms is amazing!!She's really prepared me for college math. I'm grateful to have learned calculus from her. Work hard, do the homework, and don't be afraid to ask questions!

This class was so great! I liked that I was able to submit test corrections so I could fix and understand what I got wrong.

This was probably the most usable and helpful online class I've had. Compared to some summer school courses that were either too brief to make anything stick or too disconnected to get help this class was very good. The format of the tests and homework was also very useable, especially for a math class, which can often be difficult to work out online. Overall I had little problems, and the problems I did have, which were usually my bad, were often easily fixed once the teacher got into contact with me.

Overall I really enjoyed the class. Ms. Yen was a dedicated teacher and it seemed like she was really invested in answering our questions and making sure we understood the material. She also provided lots of help and extra study materials during the review process.

I really enjoyed this class with Ms. Yen! She is a great teacher and really helps us understand the material. I had some trouble in the early part of the year, but she helped me get through and now I feel very prepared for the AP exam. One of my favorite parts about the class was the problem sessions. We are able to ask specific questions and Ms. Yen goes through them for us.

Like most Blue Tent classes, this class felt very polished and well-organized. Each week's work was clear and predictable, and Mrs. Yen was extremely helpful and knowledgeable on all topics taught. 

I enjoyed this class. The pacing and extensions allowed me extra flexibility for college applications while still pushing me to drill new concepts so they would stick. Ms. Yen was eager to explain concepts when I had questions and the problem sessions were very helpful. The exams were often time crunches, but so is the AP exam.

Ms. Yen is an excellent teacher who honestly, truly cares that you learn the material. She gives clear and concise explanations for any questions you might have, and is willing to work with you to help you understand topics that are difficult for you. She has nurtured my personal love of calculus and has given me encouragement to help me during difficult sections. If you are able, I would definitely recommend taking this class as you will not regret it!

This class provided me with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Calculus AB content. While the class was a great amount of work at a brisk pace, the effort required to succeed was more than worth it!

I really enjoyed this class. Ms. Yen is a very understanding teacher and helped everyone succeed in the class. I enjoyed learning about the various concepts throughout the year and reviewing them in the live problem sessions with the other students. At the live problem sessions, we reviewed and worked through all of the different types of problems that are on the AP Exam, including free response and multiple choice questions. Ms. Yen also provided other opportunities to better understand the topics, such as weekly office hours. After learning all of the topics, there was about a month of class to study and review before the AP Exam, which was very helpful. Overall, I think this was an excellent class. It gave me a great understanding of calculus and I now feel prepared to succeed on the AP Exam and in other higher level math classes.

I really enjoyed this class and feel very well prepared for the AP Exam. There is a lot of weekly assignments and usually either a test or quiz every week, but it is very helpful in learning the material. Ms. Yen cares individually about each student and wants to ensure that we all feel ready for the exam, and that she answers all of our questions.

I really enjoyed taking AP Calc BC with Ms. Yen and by the end of the course, I felt well-prepared for the exam. The weekly problem sessions were very helpful and Ms. Yen provides a lot of review material at the end of the year. I thought I would have to spend more time each week on Calc work, but it turned out to be less time-consuming than I thought. I spent a little over an hour a day reading the textbook, watching recorded lessons, and working on homework assignments. On days when I took a test or quiz, I spent a few more hours than usual. Ms. Yen's AP Calc BC class is definitely a rigorous and high-level course; I would highly recommend this class to anyone who likes to be challenged.

I learned so much in Ms. Yen's Calculus BC class this year. The WebAssign homework assignments and weekly videos were great learning tools. The material can be very challenging, but Ms. Yen and her knowledgeable TAs are always available for extra guidance, support, and encouragement. Friday problem sessions are also a great opportunity to come with questions and participate in practice problems. The rigorous pace pays off in the end, as you'll feel more than prepared for the AP exam. Don't hesitate to sign up for this course if you're looking for an enlightening year of Calculus BC.

Your AP Calculus BC class has been a challenging yet a very positive experience for me. I would not have been as successful as I have been in this course without your deep knowledge, sincere involvement, weekly encouragement, endless patience and around-the-clock availability. This class was very enjoyable. Ms Yen is an excellent teacher who is passionate about teaching and helping her students. She teaches the material in logical ways and simplifies and provides extra assistance with more complicated concepts. She truly wants every student to succeed and I absolutely loved taking this class!

Mrs. Yen's class has been amazing in preparing me for the AP exam. The AP exams were changed this year due to the pandemic and Mrs. Yen was able to adapt to this and help us study for these changes. I do not think I would be as prepared for the exam if it was not due to her class.

Ms. Yen is an outstanding teacher. In the Calculus BC class she went above and beyond of what would be expected of an instructor: the lectures were extremely well prepared, the problem solving meetings were thought out based on the current needs of the students, and handouts were regularly provided. Throughout the year, Ms. Yen was always willing to hold office hours to work with students individually; with the changes to the AP exam this year she readjusted our preparation and adopted the practice to the new format. One of my favorite teachers in high school, Ms. Yen set the standards for teaching and learning very high.

Ms. Yen is a teacher who is not only passionate about the topic she is teaching, but also about her students. This class is an excellent and engaging experience that thoroughly prepares students for the AP exam while making calculus fun and interesting.

I really appreciated Ms. Yen. You could really tell that she really wanted you to succeed and improve. She's the type of teacher who's into it hook, line, and sinker. She'd be willing to me with you personally and help you out with any of your questions. If you're willing to work you will get results. Math isn't something that you can just get; you really need to put your back into it and practice. Ms. Yen, thank you for all your help!

Shin Yen worked with me on AP Calculus AB, AP Physics, and the SAT Math Level 2 subject test. My calculus class was challenging, but she helped me succeed with her clear explanations of the concepts and helpful example problems. She always had multiple ways of teaching each problem to make sure I understood the concepts, and she explained their interesting applications in engineering and science.

I got a 5 on the AP exam! To prepare for the Math Level 2 subject test, she gave me great test-taking tips and provided me with excellent resources to practice. I am very thankful for her help and would highly recommend her to anyone.

Mrs. Yen is always quick to develop a good rapport with her students and employs a very engaging approach to all math subjects. She makes sure that I understand the concepts and will communicate with me if she feels that I need extra support. Mrs. Yen will also work with me to review, review, review! In the two years that I have known Mrs. Yen, she has shown me nothing but support and kindness. Through her adaptive teaching methods, I have become confident that I will perform well on tests because I have understood the concepts. For me, working with Mrs. Yen has been nothing short of extraordinary and it is with great pleasure to recommend her math courses. 

Shin has tutored my son since 7th grade. She is a great math teacher with lots of qualities that distinguish her from other tutors that I used.  She is well organized and always ready to support when my son doesn’t understand the concepts. She not only covers all materials from the class, but also gives my son extra curriculum so he can exceed. She communicates with me to make sure everything is going smoothly. She has great knowledge in geometry, statistics, algebra, and calculus.  I am so glad that she is my son's tutor and would highly recommend her to other parents.  

I wanted to share with you that my son is thoroughly enjoying his Algebra 1 classes with Mrs. Shin Yen. He never really liked math until he joined Blue Tent’s math class and is always looking forward to it. I’m actually seeing him working hard and improving a lot. I have been exceptionally pleased with the content and information that Ms. Yen has given me throughout the year. She is very easy to talk to and converse with and was more than happy to answer any questions I had on the course material. Her teaching was extremely helpful in helping me understand the many different aspects of physics and has helped me to understand and apply the concepts in class.

Mrs. Yen is a very caring and dedicated math tutor who always tries to make math easy to understand. She helps me build a solid foundation in math which makes it easy for me in the higher-level math. Whenever I have trouble understanding the concept, she patiently uses different methods to make sure I get it. She is calm and friendly. She gives encouragement and motivation, which I think are the most important to high school students. With her help, I am always well prepared and have lots of confidence when taking weekly tests. 

Shin Yen tutored our son for Math II, Math III, and AP Calc AB, over the course of three years of high school. She was by far the best math teacher our son had, and I credit her for his excellent math SAT scores.

Our son was enrolled in a public high school and Shin's tutoring was a tremendous help in both enforcing and enriching what was taught in the classroom; she not only knew the material in and out, but she also understood the various methods currently in use for teaching math. She helped our son acquire solid math thinking skills and work methods that allowed him to navigate the sometimes differing approaches to math education he encountered in high school.

She was rigorous, and she was kind. She struck a good balance between reviewing and securing fundamental concepts and introducing more challenging problems. She was able to teach in such a way that our son felt confident about his skills but was also pushed to grow into more advanced material. My son always went eagerly to his lessons, and always came back having understood the material. I can say without hesitation that she transformed our son's high school experience by allowing him to acquire, through math, intellectual maturity and confidence.

As I reflect on my high school career, it is clear that no person has helped more along the way than Shin Yen. I began working with Shin in 2016 to get extra help with Integrated Math 2 Honors. Math classes at my high school were often packed with over 35 students with little individual attention from the instructor and I often found myself leaving class without understanding the concepts and having the learn the entire content by myself before an assessment. My work with Shin helped immediately. During our two lessons a week, Shin helped me understand difficult concepts in a more timely fashion and it was Shin’s help before assessments that made the difference in my grade. She used her vast teaching resources to help me find practice problems and made herself available at all hours during the day and evening to answer my questions. I always had the feeling that she truly cared if I succeeded. She always asked how I did on the many tests and quizzes she helped me study for and seemed genuinely invested in my success. In this way, Shin helped me through Integrated Math 2 Honors, Integrated Math 3 Honors, and College Prep Chemistry during my freshman and sophomore years. 

It was however her help with AP Calculus AB during my junior year that made the biggest difference in my education. Perhaps the hardest class in my school, AP Calculus AB came with an almost insurmountable mountain of homework and tests. Shin  was familiar with the entire curriculum and had a vast array of resources for me to better prepare. Shin spent hours with me on AP Calc, helping me grasp the concepts through her personal yet professional approach, and allowed me to navigate a stressful and difficult course with a certain degree of confidence. 

Shin is smart, caring, resourceful, and always professional. l always knew that she could always help me on any difficult concept or problem. She is a truly unique, caring, and instructive teacher. It was Shin, above any other teacher, who helped me succeed in an academically rigorous high school and launch me into what I hope will be a similarly successful 4 years of college.
